Meet & Greet…Our Story

Still learning to love…

Celebrating 44 years of marriage this year, Dewayne and I are very thankful for the life that God has given us. After our first year in Georgia, we spent several in Germany (courtesy of the USAF) until we were transferred to the Midwest. We enjoy our southern foods…  grits for breakfast…no sugar for us!  Dewayne is a history buff and loves a good movie (Star Wars is a favorite). I enjoy good books or a movie that ends well! We enjoy Travel Shows, PBS (mostly history) and of course,  Home and Garden.

Helping others and Loving God…We enjoy life! So we spend a great deal of time investing in the lives of others. Whether it is encouraging an friend, single parent or family or strangers,  we want to be a blessing to the people around us. Often, we find that involves travel and time. We like to have “boots on the ground” in a foreign country each year with a mission team.  Whether it is Africa, Bulgaria, Nicaragua, London, Hawaii, or down the street,  we enjoy sharing with others.

 
Family…We have three daughters/sons-in-law and eight grandkids. Their families live in all different places including Illinois, Kentucky, and Oklahoma. We love our kids and grandkids and are on a steep learning curve on “how to be” cool grandparents!

Travel…We love to travel, by plane, train, ship, boat or car!  Our past adventures have taken us to Punta Cana, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.  We enjoy a sleeper car on Amtrak’s Empire Builder to Seattle and loved crossing over to Victoria, British Columbia. We are planning another trip on the California Zephyr, to explore more in northern California.

We have lived at 217 West Poplar in Harrisburg for twenty years. Dewayne and I stay busy between work, family, and volunteering. We would love to have you visit when you are needing an enjoyable place to explore, a get away, or a place to stay when in our area of Southern Illinois as you write your own story!
